RegSnap is a utility that lets you save snapshots of your system registry. It lets you choose between a full backup or just selected keys.

It lets you compare two of these snapshots in order to get a report of modifications made after an event, e.g. an installation. The report generated after the comparison is easy to read if you are familiar with the registry.

It comes with the export and import options, which allow you to backup the registry as a .reg file or integrate a .reg file into the registry. It offers the same graphic tree structure of the registry hives and keys as Windows RegEdit.

The snapshot process is fast. It takes about half the time it takes the Windows'. This is because it only saves the main registry hives (HKLocalMachine and HKUsers). The other keys (CurrentConfig and CurrentUsers) actually map into the first ones, so there is no need to save these hives. This also results in less disk space.

This program has experienced great improvements every time a new version is released, like multilanguage support and better GUI. Now it offers support for 64-bit systems.

The professional version adds more features, like remote registry snaphots, a command line interface, and Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) in case you need to call this program from another, useful for software developers.

Since some registry keys are of sensitive value, you must be logged on as an administrator, in order to have full access to the Registry.
